Trimming Wooden Planks
By carefully trimming the natural edge of the wood, I create a clean base for my cutting boards, ensuring an aesthetically pleasing and high-quality starting material.
Planing Wood
Careful planing of the wood ensures a uniform and smooth surface, which serves as the foundation for further processing.
Cut the wood into strips
Depending on the cutting board pattern, I cut the wood into precise strips that form the basis of the design.
The strips are planed and then glued together
The cut strips are planed and carefully glued together using food-safe, water-based white glue to create a sturdy and durable cutting board.
Cut, plane, arrange, and glue several times
The glued wooden piece is sawed, planed, rearranged, and glued again several times to achieve the desired pattern.
Plan, mill, saw, and machine
After the final pattern has been created, the board is planed to the desired dimensions, cut to size, and planed or sanded as needed.
Optional: Milling of recessed handles, grooves, etc.
Custom details such as recessed handles and juice grooves are milled to optimize functionality and design.
Sand up to 240-grit, wetting the surface occasionally
The board is sanded using progressively finer grits up to 240-grit, with the wood being moistened periodically to raise the grain.
Treatment with white oil; rubbing in a mixture of beeswax and oil
The cutting board is treated several times with white oil and then rubbed with a beeswax/oil mixture to optimize its durability and appearance.
