This end-grain cutting board is a real eye-catcher! When I first looked at the pattern, I immediately recognized a chocolate bar—or do you perhaps see little boxes? That’s the great thing about 3D designs: Depending on your perspective, a different image emerges—an optical illusion. This cutting board isn’t just a practical kitchen tool—it’s a real brain teaser that will delight you and your guests time and time again.

To achieve this incredible effect, three different types of wood are needed—for the “Chocolate Bar” end-grain cutting board, they are maple, cherry, and sipo. The three colors create the illusion of light and shadow, causing the brain to perceive a three-dimensional image. Pretty cool, right?

Every end-grain cutting board with a 3D pattern is made of end-grain wood, because only this creates a uniform pattern that achieves the desired effect. For the “Chocolate Bar” 3D end-grain cutting board, I used maple, sipo, and cherry. Not only because of the matching colors, but also because all of these woods are very hard and durable. This makes your cutting board especially durable, especially since the knife glides through the fibers of the end-grain wood and pushes them apart rather than cutting into them. So your knives will last longer, too. As you can see, a cutting board with a 3D design has plenty of advantages!
