Magnetic knife block made of end-grain wood

A magnetic knife block combines elegant wood design, precision craftsmanship, and practical functionality. Thanks to this innovative storage solution, your knives are always within reach. Each wooden knife block is magnetic on both sides and holds up to 8 knivesentirely handcrafted and sealed with food-safe white oil. The result is a stylish and truly unique product that delights both home cooks and professional chefs alike.

The stylish combination of wood and stainless steel creates a timeless look that fits into any kitchen. Since I craft all my knife blocks from end-grain wood, they’re also the perfect complement to end-grain cutting boards. Upon request, I’ll custom-make your magnetic knife block in the design of your choice!

How does a magnetic knife block work?

Although it looks as if the knives are held in place by the wood as if by magic, it’s really just pure physics at work. Powerful neodymium magnets are embedded in the solid wood core, making the knife block magnetic on both sides so your knives stay securely in place—without any visible mounts or metal parts. The magnets’ holding power is strong enough to reliably hold even large knives, yet not so strong that you can’t easily remove them. To ensure the knife block remains stable even when holding heavy knives, a solid stainless steel base provides the necessary stability.

r

Please note: The neodymium magnets are very strong and can penetrate the wood. Therefore, be sure to keep the magnetic knife block away from electronic devices and magnetic cards (e.g., debit cards or key cards), as the magnetic field can interfere with them and, in the worst case, damage them.

How to Care for Your Magnetic Knife Block

Although knife blocks are subjected to significantly less wear and tear than cutting boards, they still benefit from regular care. Since your magnetic knife block is made of wood, the surface may change over time—especially if the wood comes into contact with water.

Here are a few care tips:

  • Dry off the knife block if it comes into contact with water, and leave it without any knives until the wood is completely dry.
  • Only attach dry knives to the block so the wood doesn’t get damp.
  • Clean the magnetic knife block only with warm water and, if necessary, mild dish soap.
  • Re-oil the wood regularly.

In my shop, you’ll find the right wood care set for sanding and oiling, as well as additional tips on caring for wooden cutting boards.

The Benefits of a Magnetic Knife Block

A magnetic knife block has significant advantages over a conventional knife block or storing knives in a drawer:

gentle on knives

While knives in drawers are often stacked on top of each other, which can cause them to scratch and become dull, in a knife block each blade rests on the soft wooden surface —ideal for professional knives!

Organized storage

With knife sets in particular, all the handles look the same. With a magnetic block, you can see the blades and find the knife you want right away.

easy storage

Unlike with conventional sharpening blocks, with a magnetic sharpening block you don’t have to aim to hit a slot—the blade moves toward the magnetic surface on its own .

flexible

A magnetic knife block doesn’t have pre-cut slots, so you can arrange knives of various sizes and other metal kitchen utensils however you like.

very hygienic

Dust, crumbs, and bacteria tend to accumulate in slits, whereas a magnetic knife block can simply be wiped down. Plus, wood has antibacterial properties.
